Community Based Education

Malibu school has a customised 19-seat bus with wheelchair accessibility and hoisting capabilities to facilitate our student’s engagement in the community. In pursuing our goal for A Life Without Limits, we value the opportunities that community-based learning provides.

Community Access and Travel Training

Our programs provides authentic learning experiences in the community. This may involve travel training in the local area or beyond, as each child builds the relevant skills required to venture further into the community. Excursions are planned and purposeful with a focus on developing leisure and recreational experiences, practical life-skills, demonstrating protective behaviour awareness or extending upon other thematic classroom learning.

Swimming

Each year, students in Pre-primary to Year 6 are provided with the opportunity to undertake two weeks of swimming lessons with qualified Swimming Instructors at the Warnbro Aqua Jetty. Lessons are provided for small groups with high staff to student ratio. This activity is suitable for all levels of water awareness or skill as learning is tailored to meet each individual’s need. This activity incurs a cost to cover pool entry and lessons and usually occurs in term 2 of each year.

Sport Clinics and Carnivals

Throughout the year, our school runs team sport clinics in collaboration with recognised sport providers. Clinics include cricket, basketball, AFL and soccer and provide our students with opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge about these sports. The bonus of working with a range of specialist and elite athletes is highly valued by all.

Senior Camp

Each year our senior students engage in an inclusive camp, designed to get our children outdoors, strengthen friendships, test their abilities and have fun in a safe and supportive environment. Overnight camps are held at metropolitan locations and are an integral part of the year calendar – enjoyed by all whilst promoting resilience, independence and confidence.
